Kelly Clarkson Wants Her Last Name Back
Kelly Clarkson is hoping to legally restore her last name in her ongoing divorce. She filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock in June 2020. After recently being ordered to pay Blackstock spousal support, Clarkson reportedly filed legal docs requesting a default judgment in the case which will officially make her a divorced woman. In court documents obtained by The Blast, she is also seeking legal approval to revert back to her famous last name. Currently, Clarkson is known for keeping her last name on stage and in her career but she’s still been signing her divorce records with the last name Blackstock. “Petitioner requests restoration of the former name as set forth in the proposed judgment,” Clarkson’s latest legal docs state, according to the report. Meanwhile, Clarkson and Blackstock still need to sort out their finances in the ongoing divorce battle. So far, a Los Angeles judge ruled in July that the “American Idol” alum is required to pay $150,000 to Blackstock each month in spousal support. Additional monthly payments of $45,601 per month will be made to Blackstock for child support, according to People. The “Kelly Clarkson Show” host’s monthly payments to her estranged husband total $195,601, which comes out to $2.34 million over a year. Clarkson also has to pay Blackstock $1.25 million to cover his attorneys fees in their divorce case, the report states.

Prince Charles Can’t Help His Brother
Prince Charles believes the sexual allegations made against his younger brother are an “unsolvable problem.” On Monday, Virginia Giuffre filed a lawsuit alleging sexual abuse by Prince Andrew. This week, the Duke of York was photographed heading to Balmoral Castle where his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, is residing for the rest of the summer. On Thursday, the U.K. Times reported that the prince, who was joined by his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, is “locked in long-distance talks” with his attorneys “as they draw up their strategy for fighting the suit.” A source told the outlet that Charles, who is first in line to the throne, is concerned about how Andrew’s ongoing scandals will impact the monarchy’s future. “The prince loves his brother and has the ability to have sympathy for the slings and arrows that his brother endures, whatever the reasons may be,” said the palace insider. “His ability to support and feel for those having a tough time is well known.” “However, this will be unwelcome reputational damage to the institution,” the source continued. “He has long ago concluded that it is probably an unsolvable problem. This will probably further strengthen in the prince’s mind that a way back for the duke is demonstrably not possible, because the spectre of this [accusation] raises its head with hideous regularity.”
********The Queen said, “Why not just have her beheaded??” She doesn’t realize those days are gone!!

Kim Kardashian Gives Kanye Credit
Kim Kardashian credits Kanye West with helping her not care so much about what others think of her. She admitted on the “We are supported by …” podcast that when she first started filming her E! series in 2007, she was very concerned with how she was perceived. However, that changed around the time she began dating West, 44, in 2012. “I got to a point — and maybe [it was] being in a relationship with Kanye for a decade, someone that absolutely didn’t care about likeability factor or what any of perception of him was as long as he was true to himself — that taught me so much in the best way of just being me and living in the moment,” she told hosts Kristen Bell and Monica Padman. “You don’t have to please everyone as long as I’m myself and as long as I’m doing it the way that I want to do … like you have one life and you’re living it for you,” Kardashian added. She said she previously considered herself a “people pleaser,” but learned it was best to “just please myself” while “still being mindful, still being respectful, still being cautious of other people’s feelings and emotions around me.” “Being myself first, I think, was something that I learned over time,” she added. “Whether it’s from being so close to someone that really felt that way so genuinely to their core, whether it’s age, whether it’s becoming a mom, experiences, probably all kind of wrapped up in one.”
********Bottom line: as long as her ass looks good, she can act any way she wants!!

Ashton Kutcher Posts Kids Getting Bathed
Ashton Kutcher shared a video of him and his wife Mila Kunis bathing their children, Wyatt Isabelle, 6, and Dimitri Portwood, 4, to Instagram Thursday, weeks after the couple sparked a debate about personal cleanliness. “This bathing thing is out of hand,” Kutcher captioned the post, adding “#KutcherBathroomTalks.” He panned from the running shower to his wife, asking in mock seriousness, “What’s going on?” “It’s water! It’s water,” Kunis explained. He kept the bit going, asking his “No Strings Attached” co-star, “You’re putting water on the children? Are you trying to melt them?” “Are you trying to injure them with water?” he continued. “This is ridiculous! What’s going on?” “That’s like the fourth time this week” Kutcher yelled, as his wife, laughing, agreed, “It’s too much.” “Their body oils are going to be destroyed,” Kutcher finished. Last month, they revealed on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast that they don’t believe in bathing their kids with soap every day. The “Just Married” star said of bathing his kids, “Now, here’s the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point.” Kutcher said he’s leading by example, at least, explaining that he washes “my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever” to preserve “all the natural oil on your skin.”

But Clarkson, 39, changed her tune after announcing the end of their seven-year marriage in June 2020. Now, the parents of River, 7, and Remington, 5, are battling over money, with Blackstock, 44, recently being granted a whopping $200,000 a month in spousal support. “Kelly trusted Brandon with her heart and her career….now she can’t help but feel duped.”

Kanye’s Listening Party Disaster-(Life & Style)
Fans were seeing red at Kanye West’s listening party for his latest album, Donda-and it wasn’t just because of the rapper’s crimson getup. Another sour note? The concession stand prices. Florida Man Struck By Lightning
A Florida man’s dashboard camera was rolling when a bolt of lightning struck his brand-new 2020 Ford Ranger truck and put the vehicle “in intensive care.” Jack Foraker said he was approaching Big Carlos Pass in Lee County while on his way home to Estero when he drove into the storm. “I saw a few people that were just stragglers leaving the beach. And I said to myself, those are the type of people who get hit by lightning because they’re just leaving too late, and continued going. Turns out, they weren’t the people that got hit by lightning, I was,” Foraker told WINK-TV. Foraker’s dashboard camera was recording when a bolt of lightning struck his vehicle, causing it to shut down. “Just sounded like a shotgun blast to the back of my truck. And then yeah, it was. It was pretty scary,” he said. “My windshield wiper stopped, lost my power brakes, lost my power steering.” The truck, which only had 4,000 miles on it, was badly damaged. He said the truck was in the shop for 40 days while mechanics tried to revive it, but he is now resigned to simply buying a replacement vehicle.

Expensive Painting Bought At Thrift Shop
A man who bought a painting from a British Columbia, Canada, thrift store for $96 said he discovered the piece could be worth more than $20,000. Stephen Burgess, of Courtenay, said he regularly purchases art and frames from thrift stores to decorate his home, and on his recent visit to Value Village in Courtenay, a painting in an ornate frame caught his eye. “I thought I’d just get it for the frame,” he told the Comox Valley Record. Burgess did a Google search for the artist’s signature, Wijmer, and determined it was likely a mass-produced print of a piece by Dutch artist Gerritjen Wijmer, who was born in 1870. He bought the painting for $96, intending to reuse the frame elsewhere, but during a closer examination he found a stamp from Munich, Germany, on the back of a canvas and oil brush strokes on the perimeter of the canvas under the frame, indicating it could be an original. One of the artist’s most famous paintings, Mountain Mist, recently was auctioned for $200,000, indicating Burgess’ find could be much more valuable than the price he paid.

Electric Toothbrush Mistaken For Snake
Animal rescuers called to a Singapore home in which a woman thought she heard a cobra hissing wound up rescuing the resident from a malfunctioning electric toothbrush. Animal welfare group ACRES said a team was dispatched to the Jurong West area on a report from a resident who heard what she thought could be a dangerous snake hissing in her bedroom. The resident, Xi Yan, sent the team a recording of the noise she heard, and the rescuers determined it sounded like a black spitting cobra, a venomous species. The team searched Xi Yan’s home for nearly an hour before Muhamad Safari Bin Masnor discovered the source of the hissing — an Oral B electric toothbrush. He turned the toothbrush on and off again, bringing an end to the hissing. The resident said she discovered the toothbrush was malfunctioning because it had gotten water into the battery compartment.

Man Gives Face Tattoo At McDonalds
A South Carolina man has been arrested for alleging giving a child a face tattoo at a McDonald’s restaurant, police said. Brandon Presha is charged with illegal tattooing and underage tattooing after police learned that a minor received a tattoo. Authorities were tipped off that a man had tattooed a child’s face at the restaurant after a customer filmed the incident and posted a video on social media. Investigators identified the suspected unlicensed tattoo artist as Presha. He was arrested on Tuesday. “In our restaurants, nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our customers & employees,” McDonald’s said in a statement to Fox News. “The conduct reported is not in line with the values of our organization or in line with our expectations for how restaurants should be run. The company said it is investigating the incident.

6 Reasons Why a Couple Might Want Separate Bank Accounts
The Penny Hoarder
- You Want to Quit Being Sneaky About Purchases
When you share bank accounts with your significant other, they see every time you swipe your credit card, spring for an online purchase or make a withdrawal from the ATM.
Sometimes you might want a little financial privacy — whether you’re trying to surprise your honey with an anniversary gift or you just don’t want them to know exactly how much you spent on a new pair of shoes.
The Penny Hoarder conducted a survey on people’s budgeting and spending habits and found that nearly 1 in 4 respondents said they’ve kept a purchase secret from their significant other in fear of how they’d react.
Keeping significant financial secrets from your spouse — like racking up a bunch of debt on secret credit cards — can be harmful to your relationship. However, if you just crave a little autonomy to spend money (responsibly!), having individual accounts can help.
- You Have Different Income Levels
If you earn significantly more than your partner, you might get frustrated to see them spend your hard-earned cash on purchases you don’t agree with. If you earn less, you might be bothered feeling as if your partner is micromanaging your spending.
You can avoid feelings of resentment or annoyance by coming up with a fair way to split the household income and shared expenses — and then letting each person have the financial independence to manage their own money how they see fit.
- You Have Different Spending Habits or Money Management Styles
Another reason you might opt for separate bank accounts is if you and your other half have dissimilar spending habits or money management styles.
Maybe you enjoy spending money on experiences while your husband prefers to buy the latest tech. Perhaps your girlfriend finds it easier to use the cash envelope system to stay on budget while you hate carrying cash and can’t function without checking your YNAB app every day.
Rather than trying to convince your partner to see things your way — or getting into constant arguments about the balance of your joint accounts — it might be better to just maintain your own individual accounts.
- You’re Used to Having Financial Independence
As couples wait to get married until later in life, it may be difficult to adjust to merging finances after having sole control of your bank account.
“If you’re getting together in your 30s or 40s or later, you’re used to doing things how you do it and that’s what’s comfortable for you,” said Isabel Barrow, director of financial planning with Edelman Financial Engines.
Maintaining separate bank accounts may be what’s preferable.
There’s also the concern of losing your money management skills if you hand over the reins to your spouse to take care of paying the bills and handling the investments. It can be helpful for both to stay connected to managing their money individually rather than to have one partner who does it all.
- You’ve Been Burned by a Former Partner
Past experiences can have an emotional impact on our money mindsets.
Barrow said she’ll often see couples who are in a second marriage choose not to open joint accounts or merge other assets.
“I think that a lot of times it’s just to give them peace of mind knowing that they’re free to spend and to save how they choose,” she said. “They may have had disagreements in their prior marriage about money or maybe that was something that led to the divorce, and then they’re left feeling vulnerable financially and they just don’t want to go down that road again.”
If your former partner was financially controlling or irresponsible with money, maintaining your own savings account may give you peace of mind — even if your new spouse or significant other doesn’t demonstrate the same behavior.
- You Want to Protect Assets for Your Children
Couples who get together later in life and have children from previous relationships may choose to maintain separate accounts and assets in order to pass wealth down to their own kids.
Barrow said if you want to protect inheritance money or gifts, it’s helpful to put those assets in a trust. Assets held in a trust are more likely to be protected from being split between spouses in the event of a divorce.
4 Tips to Successfully Manage Money Separately
Keeping separate accounts in a relationship requires a little extra work. Here’s what you need to know as you go forward with this financial arrangement.
- Have a Plan for Shared Expenses
If you decide to keep your funds separate, you need to have a plan for how you’ll handle shared household expenses.
“Every couple needs to have a system that works for them,” Barrow said. “Once you find it, stick with it.”
You might decide to have each partner cover a particular set of bills. For instance, your spouse might take care of paying the rent and student loans while you cover child care and groceries.
Another option is to split the bill for everything. Money transfer apps like Venmo and Cash App make it easier to reimburse each other for shared expenses. However, Barrow finds that constantly splitting the check can grow tedious and lead to bickering or resentment.
What she recommends is for couples to open a joint bank account for shared expenses while each maintaining their own separate accounts. The amount of money each contributes to the joint account should be based on the percentage of the combined household income that they earn.
For example, if you make $60,000 and your partner makes $40,000, you should cover 60% of shared expenses while they contribute 40%.
- Keep Important Accounts in Both Names
Even if you pay the bills separately, it’s important for both people in the relationship to be named on the mortgage or rental agreement — especially if you’re unmarried.
“If … you’re not married and [the home] in one person’s name, there is a chance that if the one whose name is on the mortgage passes away, the unmarried partner can get booted out of the house,” Barrow said.
The same rule applies to utility accounts. You don’t want to break up with your boyfriend and also have your electricity and water cut off, because he was the only one listed on those accounts.
However, if you have Netflix in your name and your significant other is named on the Spotify account, it’s not as crucial to make sure those subscriptions are in both people’s names.
- Separate Accounts Won’t Necessarily Protect You if You Split Up
Just because you have money put aside in your name only, your spouse could have rights to those assets in the event of a divorce.
For married couples in community property states — Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin — all assets and debt are considered shared marital property and are generally divided evenly in a divorce, regardless of whose name is on the account.
Most states are equitable distribution states, which means that assets acquired during the marriage are to be “divided fairly but maybe not equally,” Barrow said.
Entering into a prenuptial agreement before you get married means you and your spouse can mutually agree on how you’d want their assets divided instead of being subject to state laws.
- Take Time to Plan for the Future Together
When you and your spouse manage finances separately, you may not see your overall financial picture as clearly as couples with a joint bank account.
That’s why it’s important to have open conversations about money and to be on the same page about financial goals. If you are married or in a committed relationship, you should know how much money your partner makes, what debts they have and what their spending habits are like.
Make financial transparency a regular part of your lives by implementing a monthly money date or family budget meeting.
“Even if you’re keeping the money separate, you should be planning together,” Barrow said. “You need to together determine what your spending limits should be or what your savings goals should be.”
