Ed Sheeran Wins Plagiarism Case
Ed Sheeran fired back at the music industry on Wednesday, after a judge in Britain dismissed plagiarism claims against the pop star over his hit song “Shape of You.” He took to Instagram to address the “baseless claims” that he plagiarized some of the lyrics of his hit song, which is streaming service Spotify’s most-streamed song ever. The allegations accused Sheeran of taking lyrics from Sami Switch’s 2015 song, “Oh Why” without giving credit to his fellow British artist. “I feel like claims like this are way too common now and have become a culture where a claim is made with the idea that a settlement will be cheaper than taking it to court, even if there’s no basis for the claim,” Sheeran said in his Instagram post. “It’s really damaging to the songwriting industry. There’s only so many notes and very few chords used in pop music. Coincidence is bound to happen if 60,000 songs are being released every day on Spotify. That’s 22 million songs a year, and there’s only 12 notes that are available.” Sheeran has been involved in copyright cases before. In 2018, he paid $5.4 million to songwriters after being accused of copying the song “Amazing,” which was released by Matt Cardle in 2012, on Sheeran’s 2015 song “Photograph.” “I’m not an entity, I’m not a corporation. I’m a human being,” Sheeran said, while closing out his Instagram message.

The Queen and Andrew Photos Was Not Supposed to Happen
The photos of Queen Elizabeth II on the arm of Prince Andrew nearly weren’t taken. Richard Pohle of The Times U.K. was the sole photographer inside Westminster Abbey on March 29 for the Service of Thanksgiving honoring the queen’s husband, Prince Philip. He alleged that a Buckingham Palace press officer told him he wasn’t allowed to take photos of the reigning monarch’s arrival. The queen made an appearance on the arm of her disgraced son until she took her seat. “Naturally, I balked at the order,” Pohle wrote for the outlet. “To an outsider, this may seem reasonable. ‘What’s the problem?’ you may ask. ‘The queen should have some privacy in her advanced age.’ I agree, but when the BBC is broadcasting the entire event to the world I think I should be able to take a picture as the only official photographer. How would she arrive? There was some speculation that she might arrive using a buggy or even a wheelchair. If I had no picture of that I would have the entire British media asking why not.” Pohle claimed he was positioned across from where the royal family members were seated. When attendees stood for the queen and Andrew’s arrival, he was unable to see them. “Desperation dictated I do something quickly,” he recalled. “As the choir started up I jumped off my footstool and moved quickly to the aisle between the rows of seats opposite where the queen would walk. Suddenly moving from an official position while on a royal rota is the most cardinal of sins. I brushed past the press officer and could feel a hand reach out to try and stop me, but I rushed past and crouched in the center of the aisle.” Pohle said he got his shots once the clergy walking ahead of mother and son turned at the end of the aisle. “I knew it would be the main picture from the ceremony that the news outlets were looking for,” he said. “I went back to my official position passing the frowning press officer and whispered an apology.”
***********Then he died in a hail of bullets!! Just kidding!!
*****He WILL be beheaded, however!!
Meghan Markle Fails To Trademark “Archetypes”
Archewell Audio, the production company launched by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, has filed an application to trademark the word “Archetypes.” According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database, the application was filed two days after she announced her forthcoming Spotify podcast, titled “Archetypes,” last month. If the trademark filing is approved, the word would be protected in entertainment services, such as podcasts, on-demand streaming media, live stage performances and webcasts, among others. The move has prompted backlash from British tabloids, insisting the term derives from Ancient Greece and first entered into the English language during the 1540s. However, trademarking words associated with a brand is common practice. Such brands that have trademarked their name include Apple and Google. The title of the show refers to the theme of the series, as well as Archewell, the nonprofit organization founded by the royal couple. That name pays tribute to their firstborn Archie.

Kim Kardashian Opens Up About Pete Davidson
Kim Kardashian is revealing some intimate details about her relationship with Pete Davidson. On Wednesday, she appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian and mom Kris Jenner when she revealed the first time she kissed Davidson was during their Aladdin skit on “Saturday Night Live.” Showing a photo of the stars dressed as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine for the bit, Kimmel asked where the magic carpet they were sitting on ended up. “What became of this rug? Do you have this now? It seems like you should,” Kimmel asked Kardashian. She went on to share that Davidson was already one step ahead. “Actually, for Valentine’s Day he got me the rug and the whole outfits and the little genie lamp,” Kardashian told Kimmel. “So I do own the rug.” Kimmel went on to share that his team “had to carry in a huge bouquet of flowers that Pete sent her” in honor of the famous family’s appearance on the late-night show. “Does that make the other boyfriends look bad?” Kimmel added.

Ireland Baldwin Opens Up About New Half-Sibling
Ireland Baldwin’s soon-to-be seventh half-sibling is “none of [her] business.” On the heels of her father Alec Baldwin and his wife Hillary “Hilaria” Baldwin announcing they’re expecting another child together, Ireland announced in a four-slide Instagram statement that she’s unbothered by the exponentially growing family and those “alarmingly obsessed” her dad. “Lastly, I get countless messages from people who are kind of alarmingly obsessed with my father and his family,” she wrote. “I think a lot of people assume my take on any of this, well here it is for free — it’s none of my business.” Ireland, who is the daughter of Alec and ex Kim Basinger, said doesn’t “care” about the fact that the brood is growing because she’s too focused on her life in Oregon with her boyfriend, RAC musician André Allen Anjos, and their six dogs. “I smoke weed, I eat good food, and I mind MY own business,” she continued, adding that she’s a model, screenwriter and a dog foster because “people also love to get into the topic of what I do for a living.” The Baldwins are already mom and dad to daughters Carmen, 8, and María Lucía, 13 months, and sons Rafael, 6, Leonardo, 5, Romeo, 3, and Eduardo “Edu,” 18 months.

Betty White Personal Items Up For Auction
Personal items that once belonged to Betty White are set to go up for auction in September. Awards, paintings, scripts, jewelry and red carpet outfits from the homes Betty were put on display at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills on Tuesday. She died at age 99 on Dec. 31st. “This is an auction representing an incredible life and career. It’s a lifestyle auction,” said Martin Nolan, the executive director of Julien’s Auctions. “All these items came from her home in Brentwood or her residence in Carmel in northern California, where she lived with her husband Allen Ludden,” he added. The most personal item, according to Nolan, is a “14-carat gold watch that was gifted to Betty Dec. 25, 1940 with the initials T.C.W. which, of course, is Tess White, Betty’s mom.” Up for auction are three paintings by Koko, a gorilla who communicated using sign language. Nolan values the entire collection at $1 million to $2 million. The auction will take place Sept. 23-25 in Beverly Hills.

Driver Rescued From Trash Compactor
Police and firefighters in Maine came to the rescue of a driver who apparently made a wrong turn at a garbage dump and ended up suspended over a trash compactor. The East Millinocket Police Department said police responded alongside personnel from the Millinocket Fire Department on a report of a driver stranded in a vehicle that was stuck over a trash compactor at the Millinocket Transfer Station. The driver was unable to get out of the vehicle because their door was directly above the trash compactor’s opening, police said. Firefighters were able to rescue the driver, who was not injured, and the responders were then able to remove the vehicle with help from tow trucks.

Horse Goes Thru Dunkin’ Donuts
A Florida cowboy and his horse have become local celebrities after repeatedly turning heads with their weekly trips to the local Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through. David Bosselait, a retired bull rider, has become well-known to employees and regulars at the Dunkin’ Donuts in LaBelle after he started making weekly treks to the drive-through atop his horse, Jackson. B Bosselait said the round-trip is about 12 miles. “It’s a half-a-day event. Once we make it over the bridge, we head right to Dunkin’ Donuts to get our coffee,” Bosselait told WBBH-TV. Bosselait, who has documented some of Jackson’s Dunkin’ runs on social media, said he always gets a coffee for himself and treat for Jackson. “His order is just a plain donut hole,” he said. The employees are always happy to see Jackson, Bosselait said. “They like to pat him, they scratch him, they hand him his donut,” Bosselait said. He said the weekly treks have a positive impact on the horse. See the video HERE.

Woman Accidentally Wins The Lottery
LaQuedra Edwards of California has won $10 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket that she accidentally selected from a vending machine. Edwards told California lottery officials that a rude person bumped into her at the Vons Supermarket in Tarzana after she put $40 into a Lottery Scratchers vending machine. The impact of the bump caused her to select a $30 200X Scratchers ticket, preventing her from buying a selection of cheaper scratch-offs. “He just bumped into me, didn’t say a thing and just walked out the door,” Edwards said. Edwards then played the 200X Scratchers ticket and discovered that she won the grand prize of $10 million. Edwards couldn’t believe it and said she almost crashed her car while driving on the 405 freeway as she kept checking the ticket. “I’m still in shock. All I remember saying once I found out how much I just won was, ‘I’m rich!'” she said.

Cops Use Disney Music To Stop YouTuber From Recording
A video shows Santa Ana, CA police officers waking up a neighborhood during an investigation Monday night as they blasted Disney music from one of their patrol vehicles to stop a YouTuber from recording on scene. Officers were at a scene for a vehicle theft investigation. The first song heard playing in the video is “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from the Disney/Pixar film “Toy Story.” It was almost 11 p.m. when “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” “Un Poco Loco,” and other Disney hits filled the air. At one point, the YouTuber is heard telling officers to “have respect for the neighbors.” The music drags on, waking up people in their homes, including children and Councilmember Jonathan Hernandez. “It was eerie, and it was discomforting because you don’t hear Disney music being played that loud near 11 o’clock at night,” Hernandez told Eyewitness News during a Zoom interview Wednesday. Hernandez is seen in the video speaking with one of the officers. “Why are you doing this,” Hernandez asked. “Because they get copyright infringement,” the officer replied. The YouTuber is heard in the recording saying it’s because “he knows I have a YouTube channel.” That channel is called Santa Ana Audits. On Wednesday, it had more than 3,500 subscribers and appeared to focus on recording SAPD officers on scene, a right protected by the First Amendment as long as there is no interference with police work. See the video HERE.

5 Questions To Ask About Your Relationship With Alcohol
HUFFINGTON POST
- Have my patterns changed?
Experts believe that the number of “gray area” drinkers — a nonclinical term that refers to people whose drinking exists in a hazy space between two extremes — is on the rise. Gray area drinkers don’t necessarily have a problem with alcohol. But experts emphasize that if you find yourself questioning your relationship with alcohol, it’s important to explore why.
One way is to keep closer track of your current habits instead of flying on autopilot, and be honest with yourself about whether those habits have changed. Are you someone who used to drink only socially, but now drink every night? Are you regularly drinking more in one sitting than you used to? Look for shifts and new patterns.
“Those who found themselves over-imbibing during the pandemic should think back to the way they used to consume alcohol pre-COVID and see if they can get back on track with their consumption,” Hafeez said.
- Am I thinking about drinking throughout the day?
“When you wake up in the morning and you go to work, are you thinking about five o’clock when you can have a glass of wine or a beer?” said Sarah O’Brien, an addiction specialist with Ark Behavioral Health, a rehab center in Massachusetts.
There might be days when you find yourself looking forward to a really nice bottle of wine you plan to open with a special dinner, or you’re meeting a friend for happy hour drinks and feeling excited about it. That’s different. “If this becomes a consistent thing, you can start to take a deeper look at it,” O’Brien said.
- Am I able to stick to the limits I set for myself?
Often, people who are questioning their relationship with alcohol, or who are specifically looking to cut back, will set planned limits or goals, much as they might if they were working on healthy eating or exercise. For some people, the plan might be to drink only on certain nights of the week. For others, it might be more about how many drinks they consume.
If you find that you are making these kinds of “deals” with yourself, and that you can’t really follow them, it’s a good idea to explore why, Hafeez said. Are you using alcohol as a crutch? Have you gotten into a pattern that you need outside help in breaking?
- Can I step away from drinking for a bit?
First, a reminder: None of the questions in this article are diagnostic, meaning they’re not necessarily those that a doctor would use to gauge whether someone is grappling with alcohol use disorder. (And if you do have a more serious drinking issue, you should be aware of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, which affects about 50% of people with alcohol use disorder when they stop drinking. It should be taken very seriously, and may require medical treatment.)
But if you’re someone who is just questioning gray area drinking habits, O’Brien said it may be useful to take a break for a certain period of time and see how it goes.
“You might say, ‘I’m not going to drink for the next two weeks.’ And if it becomes something that is overwhelmingly uncomfortable, certainly reevaluating if this is a bigger issue is necessary,” she said.
Those kinds of deliberate breaks can also help you shake up any patterns you’ve fallen into, O’Brien said. That’s why there’s some evidence to suggest that participating in “dry January” changes people’s drinking habits for months.
- What do my friends or loved ones think about my alcohol consumption?
Ultimately, any changes you do (or don’t) make in terms of your drinking will start and end with you. But it can be useful to check in with a trusted friend, partner or relative to get feedback, Hafeez said. Ask them if they notice any changes in your drinking or behavior, or if they notice anything problematic.
Conversely, if you feel the need to hide your alcohol use from people in your life, that is a potential red flag, Hafeez said. It may be a sign that you know you’ve taken your drinking to a new level, and you’re worried your friends and loved ones would be alarmed if they were aware of that shift.
