Ellen Speaks Out On Anne Heche Crash

Ellen DeGeneres reacted to ex-girlfriend Anne Heche’s health after her crash last week in Los Angeles, where the actress was pulled out of her vehicle after it erupted in flames upon crashing into a home, and is still currently in a coma in the hospital.   She was asked if she had spoken to Heche since the incident on Friday, to which DeGeneres responded: “No, have not. We’re not in touch with each other, so I wouldn’t know.”  When asked if she wanted to send her any well-wishes, DeGeneres simply stated, “Sure,” as she walked to her convertible. “I don’t want anyone to be hurt.” Ellen agreed it “sure was” a “dangerous accident” that happened nearly a week ago in LA.  Heche is currently in “extreme critical condition” at a medical center following the collision in Mar Vista, which also destroyed a house and displaced a woman and her dogs.

Tommy Lee shocked his Instagram followers on Thursday morning with a full-frontal nude photo taken from his bathroom.  “Ooooopppsss,” he captioned the since-deleted selfie.  In the X-rated upload, the drummer sat on marble while wearing only a silver necklace. Although the angle cut off the top half of Lee’s face, his package was on full display, leading social media users to express their surprise via Twitter.  “Following tommy lee on instagram is interesting enough but i — sigh. that was traumatizing. how is it still up?” one user wrote, with many pointing out the “insane amount of time” that the photo stayed on the platform.  Another added, “Tommy Lee getting his chopper out on IG wasn’t on the 2022 bingo card, but here we are.”  The Grammy nominee previously convinced fans that he posted a blurred-out image of his manhood in a photo with wife Brittany Furlan in September 2019 — only to clarify that the image used a filter.  “These new Instagram filters are finally gettin wood … I mean GOOD!!!!!!” Lee wrote alongside the NSFW snap.

Jerry Seinfeld Takes Credit For “Friends” Success

Lisa Kudrow revealed an unlikely run-in she had with Jerry Seinfeld who didn’t shy away from telling her he had something to do with the show’s success.  During a party in the 90s that the pair both attended, Seinfeld boasted that his own show’s popularity had a knock-on effect in making “Friends” climb up the ranks.  “I remember going to some party and Jerry Seinfeld was there, and I said, ‘Hi,’ and he said, ‘You’re welcome,’” Kudrow told The Daily Beast. “I said, ‘Why, thank you … what?’” “You’re on after us in the summer, and you’re welcome,” he added, before Kudrow said, “That’s exactly right. Thank you.”  It seems as though Seinfeld’s words had a lasting effect on Kudrow, who agrees that “Seinfeld” might have had something to do with boosting the viewership of “Friends,” which aired from 1994 to 2004.  “Not to take anything away from the writing on Friends, or the cast, or how good Friends really was, but the first season our ratings were just fine,” Kudrow added.

Britney Spears’s ex-husband Kevin Federline posted a series of old videos appearing to show her arguing with their two sons.  Kevin shared three Instagram videos on Thursday which seemingly showed Spears scolding her sons, Sean and Jayden.  “I can not sit back and let my sons be accused in this way after what they’ve been through. As much as it hurts us, we decided as a family to post these videos,” Federline wrote alongside the clips, saying their sons were 11 and 12 at the time the videos were taken.  “This isn’t even the worst of it,” he continued. “The lies have to stop. I hope our kids grow up to be better than this.”  K-Fed’s decision to share the videos online sparked outrage, with a source in the Britney camp telling Page Six, “This is terrible, Kevin is disgusting. He is weaponizing the kids by releasing the videos.  “But in these clips, Britney is just being a mom.”  Just one hour before K-Fed’s post, Spears shared a cryptic message on her own Instagram alongside an animated chess board.  “I’ve been so so so so safe mamma !!! Finding out is thin,” she wrote Wednesday night. “IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME FOR ME !!! Madonna Relives MTV Moment That Almost Ended Her Career

Madonna revealed that a wardrobe malfunction three decades ago nearly ended her career.  She shared the story during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday, decked out with a mouthful of “birthday grills”.  She joined Fallon to promote her new album “Finally Enough Love”, a curation of the singer’s favorite dance hits.  While the album celebrates Madonna’s record number of top songs, the star revealed her iconic “Like a Virgin” performance during the first-ever MTV Video Music Awards in 1984 nearly got her canceled.  When she descended onto the MTV stage to perform the hit song, her stiletto slipped from underneath her, resulting in the singer diving to catch it– accidentally flipping her dress and exposing her behind in the process.  “Those were the days when you shouldn’t show your butt to have a career,” she joked. “Now it’s the opposite.”  Madonna recalled her reps backstage deemed her career “over with” after the accidental flashing, “It wasn’t even the whole butt! It was like a butt cheek– like half of a butt cheek,” Madonna argued to the audience.  Fallon also reminded audiences that “Like a Virgin” was never supposed to be the record’s single, given that producer Nile Rodgers wanted it to be “Material Girl”.  “Those were the days when I had no say in anything,” the Grammy-winner reflected. “Can you imagine those days even existing?”

Bud Light Spill

Hundreds of beer cans spilled onto a highway median when a truck carrying a load of Bud Light overturned on a ramp.  Louisville Metro Police said the truck overturned about 8:50 a.m. Wednesday while traveling on the Interstate 71 ramp to the Gene Snyder Freeway.  The truck spilled its load of Bud Light, with most of the cans and boxes ending up on the median between the freeway and the ramp.  Police tweeted the crash was “a non-injury incident” and clean-up efforts were underway.  Traffic Response and Incident Management Assisting the River City, or TRIMARC, said the right shoulder of the freeway was blocked during clean-up efforts. Escaped Snake Found

A snake that escaped from its owner’s Montana home during moving day was found five days later in a neighbor’s garden pot.  The ball python’s owner, identified as Rae, said her 17-year-old snake, named Lucille Ball, escaped on the same day she moved out of her Bozeman home.  “We relocated her to a different enclosure for the day,” Rae told KBZK-TV. “She got a little curious and snuggled her way out of it. I went to grab her after a couple hours and she was just nowhere to be found.”  Rae said she was unable to locate Lucille, so she filed a report with the Bozeman Police Department before returning to her move.  “It’s one thing when your dog is missing, but when your snake — which is longer than you are — goes missing you wonder, what are people going to do when they see her,” Rae said.  Rae’s former roommate, Miles, was contacted by police five days later when neighbors found Lucille curled up in a garden pot.

Florida Man Shows Rifle During Parking Dispute

A Florida man is accused of wielding an assault rifle and threatening another person over a parking dispute last month, authorities said.  David Hector Berry, 44, of Clearwater, was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, the Clearwater Police Department said in a news release.  He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Friday night and was released after posting $5,000 bail, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.  According to a witness affidavit, a landscaper was working on a lawn on July 7 when Berry came out of his home and yelled because an equipment trailer was blocking his driveway, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Police said Berry then went to his truck and retrieved an assault rifle, pointing it at the man “in a threatening manner,” according to the newspaper.  Jeremy Lee moved his vehicle up, but that did not satisfy Berry, WFLA-TV reported.

Florida Woman Throws Raw Meat At Boyfriend

A Florida woman was arrested Sunday after allegedly hurling a piece of meat at her boyfriend of 20 years during a fight.  Rochelle Wright is facing a charge of domestic assault, according to a criminal complaint.  Police said Wright and the male victim, with whom she has been in a relationship for 20 years and shares a child, got into an argument and were “intoxicated” inside their Tarpon Springs, Florida, home Sunday.  Wright became angry and threw a piece of uncooked steak at the man while he was sitting on a chair, police said. The steak missed and hit the armrest of the chair and the wall directly behind him, police said.  Wright eventually admitted to throwing the steak because she was tired of his behavior and their arguing, the criminal complaint said.  Wight was arrested and booked into county jail on a misdemeanor charge.

9 Tips to Keep Your Back-to-School Budget on Track

1. Assess What is Needed

Start with the list of requested school supplies provided by your child’s teacher(s) or school district. Take inventory of what supplies you already have at home. Go through your kid’s dressers and closets to see what clothes and shoes they can still fit into before going out to buy a new wardrobe.

When creating your list, don’t forget the costs that aren’t obvious. For example, do you need to stock up on masks and hand sanitizer? Will you need to buy uniforms or equipment for sports or other after-school activities? Will your child need a physical before heading back to school?

 

2. Establish Spending Limit

It’s important to create a spending limit you’re comfortable with and that covers the basics. Shopping for school supplies without a budget will only set you up for overspending.

Once you have your shopping list together, you can start pricing items, even if you don’t plan on actually buying anything until closer to the start of the upcoming school year. Create your budget based on regular retail prices rather than current sales. Overestimating your expenses will give you a little wiggle room when it’s actually time to shop.

After you’ve totaled up how much you expect to spend, do you have enough money? If not, you’ll have to adjust.

 

3. Pad Your Back-to-School Shopping Budget

Earning extra money always provides a little financial stress relief. That holds true for back-to-school season.

Ask your employer about picking up extra shifts or working overtime. Find a temporary side gig, like dog walking, delivering groceries or doing odd jobs via TaskRabbit.

If you have older children, you could have them chip in on a portion of their school expenses — especially if they’re asking for pricey, name-brand clothing and school supplies.

Talk to your teens about school shopping expectations. Have them share some of the cost of items that don’t fall within your budget.

 

4. Create a Sinking Fund For School Supplies

A sinking fund is a pool of money that you add to over time to break a large expense into more affordable chunks.

Let’s say you’ve estimated you’ll spend $800 for the back-to-school season, and you get paid four times before school starts. Each payday, you should set aside $200 in your sinking fund to cover the upcoming expenses.

If you take money from your existing savings to start the sinking fund now, you can take out less each paycheck.

Setting up a direct deposit or automatic transfer will help you save money in your sinking fund without even thinking about it.

 

5. Implement Challenges to Save Money

Saving money can be difficult, especially when you don’t have much time. Saving challenges can help you put aside more money than you’d think.

If you shop using cash, challenge yourself to save a certain denomination whenever it hits your wallet. Perhaps you save all the $5 bills you get as change.

If you typically pay for things with a debit card, your money-saving challenge could involve rounding up each purchase to the nearest $5 increment and putting that difference toward your school expense savings.

Or try a no-spend challenge. Implement a 30-day freeze on discretionary spending so you have more money to pay for school supplies and related gear.

 

6. Be a Smart Shopper

Between now and the start of school, you’ll encounter enough sales promotions that it would be foolish to pay full retail price for anything.

In addition to taking advantage of great deals, here are some other smart back-to-school shopping strategies to keep in mind:

• Buy generic.
• Compare prices online.
• Don’t snub discount shopping at thrift stores or the dollar store.
• Get items in bulk at warehouse stores, especially if you are buying for more than one child.
• Take advantage of coupons, rebate sites or cash-back apps.
• Shop during your state’s sales tax holiday.
• Sign up for emails to save a percentage at retail stores.

The older your children get, the more opinionated they’ll probably be about what they want for the new school year. Talk to your kids about the cost of their school supplies and ask what is most important to them.

After identifying a couple select splurge items, find ways to get everything else for less. It’s a great way to teach your kids about how to budget.

 

7. Figure Out Which Expenses You Can Delay

You don’t always have to buy everything in time for the first day.

Your kids may not need new clothes right away, especially if the weather is still warm and they don’t have to wear fall clothes yet.

If you can, hold off a few weeks or more on buying the “fun” supplies, like new backpacks and lunchboxes. Retailers often will have great discounts after the back-to-school rush has died down and they are trying to get rid of that merchandise.

 

8. Plan Ahead for Next Year

Some schools don’t release supply lists until it’s too late to spend much time shopping around. Think ahead to what your student is likely to need next year, especially higher-priced items. For example, shop Fourth of July sales for clothes or for other items you know they’ll need in the future.

Use price trackers like CamelCamelCamel for Amazon or the Walmart price tracker app to watch for the lowest prices. Snatch them up throughout the year instead of waiting until the last minute.

 

9. Check for Free or Reduced Price Back-to-School Supplies

Some national retail stores like Verizon and JCPenney offer free back-to-school giveaways. Verizon provides a free backpack filled with school supplies, one per child, while supplies last.

Various non-profit organizations operating at the local level like The Salvation Army provide back-to-school assistance programs. Check locally for programs through your public library, police department or city recreation center.

Another option is to ask other parents in your social circle if they have hand-me-downs or unused supplies your kid could use. Also, Buy Nothing groups can be a great resource for procuring the bulk of the school supply list without spending a penny.
