Batgirl Speaks Out
Leslie Grace, the star of “Batgirl” — the $90 million DC film which was cut by Warner Bros. — has spoken out about the unexpected twist of fate for the first time. Sharing behind-the-scenes footage from the film, Grace said she was “proud” of the film in her first social media post since the sad news. “Querida familia! On the heels of the recent news about our movie ‘Batgirl,’ I am proud of the love, hard work, and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over seven months in Scotland,” she wrote in her Instagram post. “I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process!” She added, “To every Batgirl fan – THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, ‘my own damn hero!’” Grace’s post came just hours after directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah released their own statement about the unexpected scrapping of the film.

Stifler’s Mom Got Some Action
Jennifer Coolidge “got a lot of play” after taking on the role of Jeanine Stifler, “Stifler’s mom,” in the 1999 movie “American Pie.” She spoke to Variety and shared the “benefits” of her role as a “MILF” in the film. “I got a lot of play at being a MILF and I got a lot of sexual action from ‘American Pie,'” she told the outlet. “There were so many benefits to doing that movie. I mean, there would be like 200 people that I would never have slept with.” She recently got her first Emmy nomination for her role as Tanya McQuoid in “White Lotus.” “Some jobs, I’m sort of going, ‘Wow, this isn’t worth working for.’ What Mike [White] wrote, I was staying up late every night,” Coolidge said of “White Lotus” creator Mike White. “I have done one thing really right in my life,” she said. “I’ve picked great friends. If Mike was never successful, and we just did ‘White Lotus’ as a play in a little theater where everyone paid 10 bucks to see it, it would still be one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. Because it was a killer job that no one else thought I could do.”

Paramount Releases Streaming Numbers
Paramount Global released its second-quarter earnings report on Thursday, showing that its flagship streaming platform, Paramount+, added 3.7 million members in Q2. This helped the total number of Paramount+ subscribers balloon to over 43 million, the network said. This represents “the most sign-ups, gross and net subscriber additions of any premium domestic streaming service” in the second quarter, the earnings report said. According to the report, the net increase of 3.7 million came despite Paramount+ shutting off 1.2 million Russian accounts following the country’s invasion of Ukraine — one of the numerous entertainment companies that have cut ties with Russia. These figures gave Paramount+ a revenue of $672 million, a 120 percent increase from quarter one, Paramount Global said. Large amounts of the service’s Quarter 2 success can be attributed to 1883, a prequel spinoff of the western Yellowstone, which has become among the nation’s most popular programs. The success of Yellowstone and 1883 has also led to additional spinoffs, including the highly anticipated 1923 starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

Queen Snubs Harry!
Queen Elizabeth has seemingly snubbed her grandson, Prince Harry, in a message sent to a religious conference. On Wednesday, the Queen sent a message to the 15th Lambeth Conference, which is known as a gathering of Anglican bishops held at Lambeth Palace in London where they hold prayer and reflect on world affairs. This year’s theme, “God’s Church for God’s World – walking, listening and witnessing together,” aimed to explore how they can respond “to the needs of a 21st Century world.” In her message, she noted that climate change was “threatening the lives and livelihoods of many people and communities, not least the poorest and those less able to adapt and adjust.” “I was interested to learn that the focus of your program at Lambeth Palace today is a reflection and dialogue on the theme of the environment, a cause close to the heart of my late husband, and carried on by The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Cambridge,” said the queen, referring to Prince Philip, as well as Prince Charles and Prince William. Throughout my life, the message and teachings of Christ have been my guide and in them, I find hope,” she shared. “It is my heartfelt prayer that you will continue to be sustained by your faith in times of trial and encouraged by hope at times of despair.” This is not the first time Elizabeth highlighted her family’s passion for the environment without mentioning Harry. In November 2021, the queen recorded a message for the COP26 summit in Scotland where she said that “it is a source of great pride to me that the leading role my husband played in encouraging people to protect our fragile planet, lives on through the work of our eldest son Charles and his eldest son William.” “I could not be more proud of them,” Elizabeth added.

Talking Seinfeld Pillow
Days Inn by Wyndham has tapped actor and voiceover artist Patrick Warburton — famous for his role as Elaine’s on-again, off-again boyfriend David Puddy in “Seinfeld” — to be the voice of new talking pillows that are being placed in select properties across the country. These canary-yellow pillows dish out compliments when a guest hits a “press here” button on the top right-hand corner of the pillow — thankfully they aren’t motion-activated a la Big Mouth Billy Bass. “We wanted a voice that was recognizable and that would instantly brighten guests’ days,” said Anthony Pizzuto, senior director of marketing and operations at Days Inn by Wyndham. Warburton dishes out good vibes with pre-loaded phrases like, “Whoa, those are some awesome PJs” and, “I love having pillow talk with you.” Warburton even went rogue, straying from the script — which, of course, includes advertisement-level phrases like, “Wake up, wake up, wake up my favorite Days Inn guest” — to add his own accolades.

Sister’s Dream Leads To Lottery Win
A Maryland woman said the numbers that earned her a $25,000 lottery prize came from an unusual source: her sister’s dream. The 68-year-old Cockeysville woman told Maryland Lottery officials she often uses numbers from her own dreams to play Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5, but she recently decided to use some numbers from a dream her sister described to her to buy a Pick 5 ticket. The woman said her sister described a dream where she was riding on a bus with the number “23815,” so she decided to buy a 50-cent ticket for the July 29 midday drawing with the numbers 2-3-8-1-5. Her ticket was purchased from the Food Lion store in Cockeysville. The player said she was stunned when she checked the drawing results on the lottery app. “I was excited. I saw nothing in my Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets, but when I checked the Pick 5 it was straight across. I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

Kangaroo On The Loose In Alabama
Authorities in Alabama are teaming up with a local zoo to attempt to track down and capture a kangaroo spotted hopping loose in Tuscaloosa County.\ The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said animal control deputies are working together with Bigham Farms and Exotics to try to capture the kangaroo seen hopping Tuesday morning along Rose Boulevard, near U.S. Highway 82. Investigators said the kangaroo did not escape from Bigham Farms and Exotics. The sheriff’s office is working to identify the animal’s owner. “Do not try to approach it,” Deputy Martha Hocutt told the Tuscaloosa News. “These are wild animals; these are not the cute little fuzzies. They can hurt you; kangaroos can hurt you. We don’t know what food and water source he has had, so that can make him a little more dangerous.”

Drunk Florida Woman Arrested On Golf Cart
A woman with an open bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey in a bag was arrested for driving a golf cart on Florida’s busiest interstate while drunk, according to an arrest report. The 58-year-old woman was arrested Saturday night on the shoulder of Interstate 95. She is now facing misdemeanor charges of disorderly intoxication in a public place and resisting an officer without violence. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a semitruck driver spotted the woman driving in the golf cart in the center lane of Interstate 95 in Brevard County, which is the heart of Florida’s Space Coast. The truck driver “advised she observed the driver of the golf cart passing out while driving,” the report said. The truck driver used her semi to steer the golf cart to the shoulder of the interstate, troopers said. Once on the shoulder, the truck driver grabbed the keys to the golf cart as the woman tried to drive away. Once troopers arrived at the scene, the woman started arguing with them and insisted she needed her bag. Inside the bag, troopers found an open bottle of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire Whiskey, authorities said.

Cat Prevents Robbery
A Mississippi man said his pet cat helped prevent a robbery at his home, and he credits the calico with possibly saving his life. Bandit, a 20-pound cat, lives with her retired owner Fred Everitt in the Tupelo suburb of Belden. When at least two people tried to break into their shared home last week, the cat did everything she could to alert Everitt of the danger, he told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. “You hear of guard dogs,” said Everitt, 68. “This is a guard cat.” The attempted robbery occurred sometime between 2:30 and 3 a.m. on July 25, Everitt said. He was first awoken by Bandit’s meows in the kitchen. Then, she raced into the bedroom, jumped onto the bed and began pulling the comforter off of him and clawing at his arms. Everitt knew something was wrong. “She had never done that before,” Everitt said. “I went, ‘What in the world is wrong with you?’” Everitt got up to investigate and saw two young men outside his back door. One had a handgun, and the other was using a crowbar to try and pry the door open, he said. Everitt said by the time he retrieved a handgun and returned to the kitchen, the would-be intruders had already fled.

10 Tips to Make More Money as a DoorDash Driver
THE PENNY HOARDER
- Set a Minimum Delivery Rate Per Mile
DoorDash provides a minimum payment for mileage — your base pay — and the rest of a driver’s earnings come from tips. But sometimes people just aren’t willing to pay to have their food delivered.
As a DoorDash driver, you need to watch out for pitfalls that could cost you more money than you are making. One of the biggest? Not setting a minimum rate. Most doordashers agree that you shouldn’t accept orders if it’s less than $1 per mile.
PRO TIP
Don’t be too worried about your acceptance rate. DoorDash won’t deactivate you for a low acceptance rate. Declining orders actually helps DoorDash learn what types of orders you’re willing to accept.
- Accept Grocery Store Orders Cautiously
Retail and grocery store orders can seem like a steal when they first pop up in your driver app, but you’ll need to be careful.
Many major grocery and retail chains, such as Walmart, will require you to pick up a large number of items and deliver them to different locations.
Check how many deliveries you need to make from a single order pick up, then determine if the time and distance are worth the payout.
- Keep an Eye on Your Completion Rate
DoorDash drivers are rated on a number of criteria including customer ratings, acceptance rate, completion rate and on-time/early deliveries.
The only one you can throw out the window is the acceptance rate, which denotes how many jobs you accepted or turned down. Everything else matters, especially your completion rate.
Keep an eye on how many jobs you “unassign,” as dropping too many jobs can cause your account to be deactivated.
- Track Your Expenses and Mileage
When you work as a food delivery driver, you are working as an independent contractor. That means your taxes will be different and you should track mileage and expenses, like fuel, during your drive.
Come tax season, you can write off your expenses and mileage to reduce what you owe in taxes. You can use a dedicated mileage tracking app on your smartphone or simply write down your car’s mileage before and after every dashing session to record how far you drove.
- Don’t Use Fast Pay if You Can Wait
Sometimes you need money fast, but if you can wait, avoid using DoorDash Fast Pay.
Normally, DoorDash transfers your earnings weekly, but if you need your money that day, DoorDash is happy to allow you to get it right away — for a fee, of course. Fast Pay costs $1.99 per day.
Skip the fees and wait for the weekly independent contractor payout if you can. Otherwise, you are burning away your earnings.
- Learn About Restaurants in Your Area
Let’s face it, when it comes to DoorDash, time is money. Whether working for DoorDash or Uber Eats, food delivery drivers learn to quickly take note of local restaurants and how quickly food is ready to go.
As you Doordash, you may find a few locations that never have the food ready to pick up or force you to wait in line. If you find a restaurant is consistently slow, consider declining the order.
PRO TIP
Having takeout delivered to your doorstep is amazing — and expensive. Here are five ways you can save on food delivery the next time you order.
- Deliver During Lunch, Dinner and Busy Times
Some areas will be busy around the clock, but most areas, especially suburbs and rural locations, may be slower during different times of the day. Learn what times your area is busy and try to dash then, so you aren’t wasting your time and fuel sitting in the car.
Typically guaranteed times are around lunch and dinner but see when folks in your area tend to order. You might be surprised to find some mid-afternoon eaters or late-night dashes.
Also, learn what times offer peak pay for drivers in your area. Peak pay hours are times when demand is high so the company is willing to pay more for your time — and you make more faster.
What you can earn during peak pay hours depends on how busy that time is, but it usually adds a few bucks for each delivery you complete.
- If You Can, Use a Fuel-Efficient Car
It’s a no-brainer. You’ll make more on DoorDash deliveries if you drive an affordable electric car than a Hummer.
When you drive a lot for work or a side hustle, killer gas prices will easily catch up to you. If your partner has a more fuel-efficient car, see if you can borrow it. Otherwise, consider buying a more wallet-friendly used vehicle the next time you upgrade.
- Don’t Be Afraid of the Restaurant Counter
Again, time is money — and the goal is to make more money — so you shouldn’t be standing around. Not only will your customer’s food get cold, but you’ll lose out on additional deliveries.
When you get to a restaurant, don’t be afraid to walk up to the counter and announce you are here for DoorDash. You want to get that order and get back on the road.
Don’t jump in the queue with everyone else. You’ll quickly find your on-time delivery rating dropping if you wait.
- Follow the Rules of the Road
Sometimes that meatball parmigiana sandwich in your passenger seat feels like an emergency, and you want to cruise through lights and pull up in fire zones like an ambulance. But you are delivering food, not something super critical.
Be sure to obey the speed limits and park only in designated areas. Speeding or parking tickets can eat into your Doordash earnings and may raise your car insurance.
