Ricky Martin Incest Case Dismissed
The court case against Ricky Martin has been dismissed. His nephew, who’d accused him of sexual abuse, asked to have the case dismissed in a Puerto Rican court on Thursday, and his request was obliged, attorneys for Martin told PEOPLE in a statement. “Just as we had anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court. The accuser confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the accuser confirmed he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter,” the statement read. “The request came from the accuser asking to dismiss the case.” The statement continued: “This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career.” The allegations emerged on July 1 when a judge granted a restraining order against Martin under Law 54 — also known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act, which he denied.

Despite Meghan Markle’s version of the story, she was the one to make Kate Middleton cry during their 2018 bridesmaid squabble and not the other way around, a new royal biography claims. Investigative journalist Tom Bower alleges in his book “Revenge” (per the Daily Mail) that Middleton “burst into tears” after Markle compared the Duchess of Cambridge’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, “unfavorably to her best friend Jessica Mulroney’s daughter,” Isabel, during a dress fitting before her wedding to Prince Harry. Bower claims Markle and Middleton did not see eye to eye about the length of Charlotte’s hemline or the fit of her dress. They also allegedly disagreed on whether Markle’s bridesmaids “should wear tights” at the wedding. Kensington Palace released a statement denying that the feud ever unfolded and saying an article hosted “a swathe of inaccuracies and false misrepresentations.” That following year, Markle addressed the accusation head-on, claiming during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that it was in fact Middleton who made her cry. “The reverse happened,” Markle said, reflecting on the bridal barrage during the interview in March 2020. “Everyone in the institution knew it wasn’t true.”

Tom Cruise becomes Hollywood’s highest earning actor, after he earned more than $100 million for his latest film Top Gun: Maverick. Will Smith is the second highest paid actor with $35 million for his upcoming film, Emancipation. Also on the list are Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel and Joaquin Phoenix, among others. Cruise is reportedly expected to make more than $100 million thanks to box office earnings, his fee, as well as his cut from streaming revenues. Top Gun: Maverick released in May and reportedly earned $1.2 billion globally, making it the first Tom movie to pass the billion-dollar mark at the box office. The second biggest earner, according to the Variety report, is Will Smith, who made $35 million for the upcoming action thriller Emancipation. Will made headlines and faced backlash for slapping Oscar host Chris Rock live on stage during the Academy Awards on March 27. Other high-earning actors include Leonardo DiCaprio, who earned $30 million for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film Killers of The Flower Moon, and Brad Pitt, who made $30million for an upcoming untitled Formula 1 drama. Kennedy Center Honorees Announced
The recipients of the 45th Kennedy Center Honors have been announced. They include actor and filmmaker George Clooney; contemporary Christian and pop singer Amy Grant; venerable gospel, soul and R&B star Gladys Knight; Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, conductor and educator Tania León; and four Irish musicians you may know best as the rock band U2. In a statement, bandmates Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. said they consider America a home away from home. “In December 1980, we made our first trip across the Atlantic to America,” they wrote. “We had big dreams then, fueled in part by the commonly held belief at home that America smiles on Ireland. And it turned out to be true, yet again. But even in the wilder thoughts, we never imagined that 40 years on, we would be invited back to receive one of the nation’s greatest honors. It has been a four-decade love affair with the country and its people, its artists, and culture.” The Honors are designed to raise money for the Kennedy Center as well as recognize talent and produce an entertaining few hours of television; the annual ceremony is slated for Dec. 4, to be broadcast later on CBS and streamed on Paramount +.

Harry Styles College Course
Texas college students who are fans of Harry Styles will soon be able to study the former One Direction singer’s work as he’s officially become a school subject. Texas State University in San Marcos is offering a college course about him starting in spring 2023. Associate professor of digital history Dr. Louie Dean Valencia will be teaching the course, titled “Harry Styles and the Cult of Celebrity: Identity, the Internet and European Pop Culture.” Valencia took to TikTok to share how thrilled he was to offer the unique college course. “I’m that professor who will be teaching a class on Harry Styles at #TXST University in Spring 2023! Follow for [mostly] Harry related content, the class, books, and coffee.” The Texas college professor concluded the social media caption with a few hashtags, including #harrystyles, #loveontour2022 and #1D. He also posted to Twitter Friday about the college course on the former One Direction band member. “It’s official, official. I’m teaching the world’s first ever university course on the work of Harry Styles…” the tweet mentioned. According to the class flyer, the honor’s college course will focus on Styles’ music, along with “the cultural and political development of the modern celebrity as related to questions of gender and sexuality, race, class, nation and globalism, media, fashion, fan culture, internet culture, and consumerism.”

Alligator Gets Stuck Under Police Car
Police in Florida said an alligator fleeing from officers attempted to crawl under a patrol cruiser and became stuck beneath the car. The Leesburg Police Department tweeted a photo showing the alligator wedged with half of its body beneath the patrol car. “While helping wrangle this alligator, it fled under one of our traffic units at full speed and wedged itself underneath the car,” the tweet said. “We are pleased to report the gator was safely extracted and there was no permanent damage to the vehicle!” It was not clear whether the alligator was relocated or released at the scene. Rare Moth Discovered
The Scottish Wildlife Trust said a visitor to a wildlife reserve spotted a sallow-shoot piercer moth — the first of its species documented in the country. The wildlife trust said Bill Higgins was walking in the Cathkin Marsh Wildlife Reserve, which is operated by the trust and situated near Glasgow, when he identified the unusual visitor. “The moth is one of thousands of species in the family of tortrix moths,” the trust said in a news release. “It relies on willow trees as its food plant. Eggs are laid on buds and the larvae burrow into twigs for the winter before emerging in spring as adults.” The trust said there have been only 29 reported sightings of sallow-shoot piercer moths on Britain’s National Biodiversity Network Atlas, and none had ever before been seen north of Birmingham, England. Higgins said he initially did not know the species of the moth, so he reached out to expert Mark Young via an online forum.

Man Steals Expensive R2D2
A Florida man with an application pending to Walt Disney World Security, stole an R2-D2 droid worth up to $10,000 and posed as a staff member because he wanted to show weaknesses in the security of the resorts so he could get a better paying job, sheriff’s deputies say. David Proudfoot remains in custody on a charge of grand theft and obstruction of information, according to an arrest affidavit. Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from Disney security at the Swan Reserve Hotel on May 31. Upon arriving, deputies made contact with Proudfoot, who was wearing a gray t-shirt, beige work pants, and an orange vest. Deputies said Proudfoot identified himself as David E. Rodgers, provided an address, and said he was employed by the Walt Disney Company in the receiving Division at the Yacht club resort. Disney security had stopped Proudfoot because he was seen pushing a car and looked suspicious, according to the affidavit. When an officer offered to help Proudfoot, he was said to have looked confused as to the location of the loading docks or proper procedures of the hotel, the affidavit said. Proudfoot later admitted to moving an R2-D2 droid from the third floor of the Swan Hotel and a game machine because he had an application for Walt Disney World Security pending and was moving the items to “show weaknesses in the security of the resorts” in the hopes of getting a better paying job at the resorts.

Florida Man Wanted To Blow Up His Street
A Florida man who allegedly built explosive devices with the intent to blow up himself and his street was arrested Monday in Lake County, according to an arrest affidavit. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said a woman, who had been staying at the home of 55-year-old Markus Fricke, contacted law enforcement Friday saying the man had been making bombs and booby traps devices in his Eustis home on Tulip Avenue and told her his intentions. She said the man had built several devices recently and was awaiting a shipment of chemicals to finish building the devices. Detectives executed a search warrant for the home and LCSO’s hazardous device team – which has specialized training in explosive devices – sent a robot into the home to prevent deputies from getting hurt in any traps. Inside the home, authorities found multiple destructive devices, a fuel bomb/incendiary device, and several guns and ammunition. “He had his house full of them, and they were all over the place,” said Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. “On Friday night he was threatening to kill himself and blow the house up.”
