Top Gun: Maverick Cast Had Intense Training

Paramount Pictures released a 3-minute featurette Monday showing the intense training the cast of Top Gun: Maverick went through to make the film.  After being delayed two years because of the coronavirus pandemic, the film is set for release in theaters on May 27^th.  “After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him,” a synopsis said.  “When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: ‘Rooster,’ the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka ‘Goose.’ Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.”  The cast — which includes Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer — went through three months of U.S. Navy-type training where they exercised daily, were inverted, submerged in water, flew in jets doing aerobatics and ran their own cameras to capture the stunts.  See the video HERE.

The Queen’s Private Moment After Philip’s Funeral

One of the Queen‘s most trusted aides has shared details of how the Queen spent time alone in the hours after the Duke of Edinburgh‘s funeral.  In a new chapter to update her book The Other Side of the Coin, The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe, which is published in this week’s HELLO! magazine, Angela Kelly describes how she waited for the monarch in her dressing room until she had returned from the service at St George’s Chapel.  She says: “I helped her off with her coat and hat and no words were spoken. The Queen then walked to her sitting room, closed the door behind her, and she was alone with her own thoughts.”  She writes of the day he died, 9 April 2021, “The feeling among all the Royal staff in the bubble at Windsor Castle was somber. Only a few of us were told after the family had been informed.” On the day of his funeral, 17 April, staff were allowed to stand outside the Augusta Tower door opposite St George’s Hall at the Castle. Angela writes: “The Queen’s dressers, pages, chefs, housemaids, footmen and Castle attendants all stood to attention as The Duke of Edinburgh’s coffin was carefully placed onto the Land Rover that he had specially designed for the day.

Jaden Smith Mocked After Comments

Jaden Smith is being mocked for saying in a recent interview that he preferred hanging out with adults over kids growing up because children didn’t like to talk about the “political and economic state of the world.”  “I am very happy that I spent my childhood with more adults than I did with kids my own age, because I was picking up more things from adults that I were [sic] from kids my own age,” the 23-year-old explained on BigBoyTV earlier this month.  He then went on to imitate the voice of a young person, claiming they like to say things like, “Look at my phone! Selfie.”  “I’m just, like, ‘Dude, like, oh my God. Can we talk about the political and economic state of the world, right now?’” he said.  “Can we talk about what’s going on in the environment? Can we talk about other things?”  Jaden began trending on Twitter Sunday into Monday after his remarks resurfaced online.  People began creating memes and jokes to poke fun of the fact that he appeared seemingly annoyed in the interview that at one point in his life young children didn’t want to discuss serious subject matter with him.  One user tweeted, “Jaden smith on his way to curse out his kindergarten classmates for not understanding the complexities behind the current political climate.”  Another captioned a photo of a teary-eyed SpongeBob SquarePants, “8 year old Jaden smith when jada gave him a spider man themed birthday party instead of a book study on the war of mesopotamia.”

Tom Hanks Tosses Wilson At Baseball Game

Tom Hanks threw the first pitch at the Cleveland Guardians’ opening day game at Progressive Field against the San Francisco Giants.  He sported white and red Cleveland Guardians garb and had his trusty sidekick Wilson along with him to toss the first pitch to Larry Doby Jr.  “Joining Tom, please welcome his former costar from the movie ‘Cast Away,’” said an announcer in a video of the game posted by the sports team on Twitter. “It’s Wilson, the volleyball!”  Once Hanks stepped up to the mound, he raised the blood-stained white volleyball over his head. One side had the character’s infamous handprinted face on it and the other side showcased the Guardians’ logo.  He then placed Wilson on the ground so he could hurl the ceremonial pitch.    In a prank, the ball rapidly traveled around on the field — possibly by a remote in a nod to how Hanks’ character was separated from his friend in the film. Hanks burst out laughing as he looked on.  “There goes Wilson,” one announcer said during the game after the ball rolled away. “It’s windy today,” another emcee joked.  See the video HERE.

Jennifer Grey Opens Up About Nose Job

Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey is opening up about the nose job she says cost her a career in Hollywood. In an interview with the New York Times to promote her memoir Out of the Corner, she describes the impact of plastic surgery on her life: “Overnight I lose my identity and my career.”  The two surgeries, which Grey refers to as “schnozzageddon,” took place after Grey starred opposite Patrick Swayze in the 1986 smash hit Dirty Dancing. “After Dirty Dancing, I was America’s sweetheart, which you would think would be the key to unlocking all my hopes and dreams,” Grey writes in her memoir. “But it didn’t go down that way.” Grey recalls that after Dirty Dancing, there were still not “a surplus of parts for actresses who looked like me.” Industry professionals apparently told her that her nose was “a problem,” with one plastic surgeon wondering “why that girl didn’t do her nose” after watching the film.  After consulting her mother and three plastic surgeons, Grey underwent two rhinoplasty surgeries to“fine-tune” her nose. The second surgery, meant to correct an irregularity caused by the first, was more aggressive than Grey had hoped, and left her nose “truncated” and “dwarfed”—rendering Grey practically unrecognizable to people she had known for years.  Grey painfully recalls being hounded by the paparazzi and becoming a national punchline due to her plastic surgeries. “Being misunderstood on a global stage was very painful,” Grey told the Times.

Pujol’s Split Timing From Wife Is Lousy!-(National Enquirer)

Baseball superstar Albert Pujols, 42, shockingly benched his wife, Deidre, just days after she underwent successful surgery to remove a brain tumor!  They were married for 22 years and share five kids.  The St. Louis Cardinals legend insists this “isn’t something that just happened overnight.”

Escaped Wallaby

The Memphis Zoo in Tennessee said a wallaby that escaped during storm-induced flooding was found on zoo grounds and safely captured.  The zoo said the wallaby, which escaped Wednesday when thunderstorms caused flash flooding in the KangaZoo Outback Experience exhibit, was found Friday in a service yard near Rainbow Lake.  The zoo said officials spotted tracks Friday morning and followed them to the wallaby’s location, which was on zoo property.  Officials said the wallaby rejoined the rest of the zoo’s marsupials in the animal hospital area, where they were evacuated to during the storms. The wallaby will be examined by a veterinarian before the Australian animals are returned to their enclosure.

A gardening supply store in Michigan is drawing in customers with an unusual promotion: free gasoline with purchase.  Grow Green MI in Whitmore Lake, Livingston County, announced 180 customers Friday afternoon and evening will receive five gallons of free gas with any size purchase.  The store said the promotion applies to any size purchase at the store, but customers seeking the free gas must register before checking out with Eventbrite.  “They just have to come in the store and buy something, anything, whether it be a light for 50 cents or a T-shirt for $10, or actually nutrients or lights,” Grow Green MI marketing director PJ McMillan told MLive.  McMillan said the gas giveaway is part of the store’s tradition of “Free Stuff Fridays.”

Florida Man Steals Desserts

A shirtless Florida man broke into a closed restaurant Thursday and helped himself to some desserts.  Deputies said a security camera showed John Caster, 42, burglarizing the Red Wing Restaurant in Groveland.  The restaurant’s owner told police that Caster broke into the restaurant through a back porch screen.  Caster had a small dog and a backpack with him as he ate a cobbler dessert out of a pan, an arrest report said.  Deputies said Caster left the restaurant on a bicycle before being arrested.  Officials said that while searching Caster, they found a stainless-steel pan filled with cobbler, a lava cake and a large tub of vanilla ice cream on his person.
*******They charged him with “assault with a deadly cobbler!!”
*******He had the ice cream in his crotch. He was never gonna eat it… he just liked that!!

Clothes Hanger Record

A father and son team broke a Guinness World Record in Britain by hanging up 10 items of clothing in 56.87 seconds.  Edward Draper and son Rowan Draper took on the record at Turk’s Head pub in Twickenham, London.  The duo said they spent hours choosing the right items of clothing and making sure they weren’t plagued with issues like sticky zippers.  The team successfully earned the record with a time of 56.87 seconds.  The successful record attempt raised money for the British Heart Foundation.  See the video HERE.
