Justin Bieber Sells Song Rights

Justin Bieber has sold his music rights to Hipgnosis Songs Capital in a reported $200 million deal.  Billboard said Tuesday that Hipgnosis has closed a deal to acquire 100% of Bieber’s publishing, along with artist royalties from his master recordings and neighboring rights.  According to Rolling Stone, the deal covers all 290 titles in Bieber’s catalog released prior to Dec. 31, 2021, including his most recent album, Justice, released in March 2021.  Sources told Variety that Bieber’s songs will continue to be administered by Universal Music.  “I want to thank Merck [Mercuriadis] and his entire Hipgnosis team and all of our partners involved for working so hard to make this historic deal happen,” Hybe America CEO and Bieber’s longtime manager Scooter Braun said in a statement. “When Justin made the decision to make a catalog deal, we quickly found the best partner to preserve and grow this amazing legacy was Merck and Hipgnosis. For 15 years I have been grateful to witness this journey and today I am happy for all those involved. Justin’s greatness is just beginning.”

Oscar Nominations

Everything Everywhere All At Once was nominated for a leading 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, on Tuesday at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.  All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin followed close behind with nine nods apiece.  Sequels Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water earned Best Picture nominations, too. However, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever did not secure a slot in the top category.  Angela Bassett earned a mention for Best Supporting Actress, the first acting nomination for a Marvel movie, for her performance in Black Panther. The film also is nominated for several technical awards.  Everything Everywhere All At Once star Michelle Yeoh made history as the first Asian artist nominated for Best Actress.  2022 was a great year for women storytellers like Sarah Polley, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Maria Schrader and Charlotte Wells, but none of them were nominated for Best Director for their respective films Women Talking, The Woman King, She Said and Aftersun.  The Academy Award winners will be announced March 12 at a gala at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.  Late-night talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the ceremony for a third time.

Tom and Gisele Search For School For Their Kids

Divorced Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady checked out a ritzy Miami school for their kids separately.  After it was revealed that Tom Brady toured a private Miami school as an option for their kids, a source says Gisele also went in to take a look on her own.  “She came in first and then he came at another time,” says a source.  They share 13-year-old son Benjamin and 10-year-old daughter Vivian. Brady also shares 15-year-old son Jack with ex Bridget Moynahan. He’s already at high school elsewhere.  The private school is a favorite amongst the elite set. It runs more than $45,000 for high schoolers.  However, “It’s not [very] academic. It’s like a country club for rich kids.”  The Miami school tour adds and interesting aspect to speculation about Brady’s careers plans. According to reports, Brady seems unlikely to sign up for a fourth season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The interest in the Miami high school could lend credence to rumors that he could be a candidate to join the Miami Dolphins, or that he could retire and settle in the southern city, where he has a home.

Amy Robach’s Learning A Lot About Her New Man

Amy Robach didn’t expect her affair with T.J. Holmes to “blow up into a scandal,” a new report claims.  She feels like “collateral damage,” a source told the US Sun.  “She had no idea the scope of T.J.’s alleged past office romances,” the insider added, referencing Holmes’ alleged dalliances with an intern 13 years his junior and an ABC producer.  “She certainly did not foresee that their relationship was going to cause major upheaval — outside of her own marriage.”  They were taken off the air shortly after news broke of the scandal. An internal investigation remains ongoing at ABC.  The US Sun’s source believes the inquest “will look into Amy’s past to try to find some scandal,” noting, “But fortunately for her, she is fairly well-behaved.”  However, a source says that Robach was not “blindsided” as the report claims — at least by Holmes’ relationship with producer Natasha Singh. The insider claims he was “up front” with her regarding their former relations.

Super Bowl National Anthem Performer Announced

The NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music announced back in September that Grammy Award winner Rihanna will be taking the stage for what’s sure to be a memorable halftime show, but fans have been waiting to find out who will take part in the pregame entertainment.  The NFL made the announcement on Instagram on January 24. R&B star Babyface will be singing “America the Beautiful,” Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph will be on hand to perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” and country star Chris Stapleton has the honors of performing the National Anthem.  The “Tennessee Whiskey” singer, known for his bluesy-rock version of country, has won 8 Grammys, 10 ACM awards, and 14 CMA awards. Yet some football fans didn’t recognize the name and left comments like, “Please someone tell me I’m not the only one who does not know any of these people,” “Who?who? and who?” and “This seems missable.” But the NFL Instagram account was also flooded with excited country music fans who wrote, “Chris Stapleton’s national anthem will not be matched,” “Chris Stapleton is amazing, cant wait!” The Super Bowl airs on Fox on February 12. Kickoff is at 6:30 EST.

Rebound wedding!  Kanye West seems to have finally given up on reuniting with ex-wife Kim Kardashian, 42-and wed her look-alike instead.  Less than two months after his divorce was finalized, a source says Kanye, 45, secretly tied the knot with 27-year-old Australian architect Bianca Censori, who has worked for his company, Yeezy, for several years.  “It’s just another day in his roller-coaster life!”  Kim’s response?  On Jan. 13, she posted a cryptic quote in Instagram before quickly deleting it:  “I’m in my quiet girl era.  I don’t have much to say.  Just much to do.”

Demon Dog Needs A Home

An animal shelter in New York is seeking a home for a dog described as “a terror,” “a fire-breathing demon” and a “whole jerk.”  The Niagara SPCA said 26-pound Ralphie has been adopted twice, but was returned twice due to his bad behavior.  “At first glance, he’s an adorable highly sought after, young dog. People should be banging down our doors for him. We promise you, that won’t be the case. Ralphie is a terror in a somewhat small package,” the shelter said in a Facebook post.  The shelter said Ralphie’s most recent owners took him home with the intention of training him.  “Two weeks into this new home and he was surrendered to us because [he] ‘annoys our older dog.’ What they actually meant was: Ralphie is a fire-breathing demon and will eat our dog,” the post said.  “He’s a whole jerk — not even half. Everything belongs to him. If you dare test his ability to possess THE things, wrath will ensue. If you show a moment of weakness, prepare to be exploited,” the shelter warned.

Get Paid To Eat Cheese and Sleep

A mattress-reviewing website is seeking study participants willing to get paid $1,000 to eat cheese snacks before going to sleep. Sleep Junkie announced it is seeking five “dairy dreamers” for a study that seeks to address the commonly held belief that consuming cheese or other dairy products before bed leads to nightmares.  “We also want to look at, if this is true, do different cheeses have more of an effect than others?” the company’s post states.  The five chosen dairy dreamers will be asked to track their sleep and provide written evaluations of their sleep quality, energy level throughout the day and reports on dreams and nightmares after consuming various cheese products before going to sleep.  “We’re also aware that it isn’t just nightmares that can play havoc on a good night’s sleep so we wanted to see if there was a link between the different types of cheese and other symptoms that can leave you feeling unrested,” Sleep Junkie spokeswoman Dorothy Chambers said in the announcement.  The study will last for three months. Applications are being accepted through Feb. 10.

Florida Man Beats Up ATM

A Central Florida man took his frustrations out on an ATM the other day and ended up in legal trouble. Del Michael Scotti, 56, was arrested Jan. 14, a few hours after attacking the bank machine with a hammer, according to the Leesburg Police Department.  Authorities say that Scotti visited the ATM at a Bank of America branch around 9 a.m. to make a financial transaction. When the card didn’t spit back out for whatever reason, he became agitated. According to a police report, employees inside the bank having a meeting heard the customer yelling at the ATM and saw him rocking it back and forth, screaming at it.  After the yelling and rocking yielded no results, Scotti returned to his truck for a hammer, the LPD complaint said. Bank surveillance video captured the plate number of the vehicle, which came back as registered to the suspect. Police paid a visit to Scotti’s home, where he answered the door and told them: “You must be here because of the ATM.” He admitted to attacking the machine out of frustration when his card did not come out, police say.
